Game Changer for Patients with Anxious Depression
Deep TMS for Anxious Depression Treatment
Using Deep TMS for Anxious Depression Treatment
Are you grappling with anxious depression? Feeling overwhelmed by the weight of anxiety and depression combined? You’re not alone, and there’s hope on the horizon. One of the most promising treatments emerging in recent years is Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Particularly for those who have found little relief from conventional treatments, this innovative approach could be the lifeline you’ve been searching for.
What is TMS?
TMS is a bit like a ray of hope for those who have felt locked in the shadows of mental health disorders. It’s a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to gently stimulate nerve cells in the brain. Initially designed for treating depression, it has demonstrated its versatility by proving equally effective for a variety of other mental health conditions such as anxiety, PTSD, and especially, anxious depression.
How Deep TMS Works
Deep TMS treatments at Stedfast Psychiatry uses a machine that utilizes patented “H-Coil” technology fitted within a comfortable, padded helmet that can be secured to the patient’s head during the treatment. The helmet is positioned to allow the precise targeting of the area of the brain relevant to the particular symptoms of the patient.
Electromagnetic fields are then used to regulate the activity of the targeted parts of the brain, reaching deep hard-to-treat areas of the brain while simultaneously covering more of the relevant brain than with traditional TMS therapy. This is how Deep TMS avoids the targeting issues that occur when using traditional TMS.
What Does Deep TMS Do?
Through the application of the treatment coil, Deep TMS therapy uses highly concentrated magnetic fields which turn on and off very rapidly. These magnetic fields do not directly affect the whole brain; they only reach about 4 centimeters into the brain directly beneath the specific areas targeted by the treatment coil. These magnetic fields produce very small electrical currents. It is these electrical currents that activate cells within the brain which are thought to release neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
Because anxious depression is thought to be caused by an imbalance of these specific chemicals in the brain, Deep TMS can restore that correct chemical balance and, thus, provide healing and relief to patients with anxious depression.
TMS Advantages
Imagine a treatment that’s as concerned with your comfort and daily routine as you are. That’s TMS! Unlike many traditional treatments, TMS:
- doesn’t lead to systemic side effects
- Laser-focused on specific brain regions responsible for mood regulation, ensuring a more targeted and efficient way of reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression
- No need for hospital stays or anesthesia
- Sessions are short so you are free to pick up your life where you left off after each session, making
- TMS fits into your life, rather than disrupting it.

FDA Approved to Treat Anxious Depression
Deep TMS isn’t just an experimental treatment, but a clinically approved, validated method to treat anxious depression. It has been officially approved by the FDA, and this recognition is rooted in numerous rigorous studies that testify to Deep TMS’s ability to alleviate the burdens of anxious depression.
Is Deep TMS Safe for Treating Anxious Depression?
Absolutely! Deep TMS is not just an effective treatment but also a safe one. The side effects, if any, are typically minimal and temporary, often limited to a mild headache or scalp discomfort during the initial treatments. It’s like a small, tolerable bump on the road to recovery and a life free of anxious depression.
Who Can Benefit From Deep TMS
Deep TMS can be a game-changer for anyone diagnosed with anxious depression, especially those who haven’t found relief from standard treatments. However, it’s vital to remember that every person is unique, and so is their journey towards mental health. That’s why a consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary to determine if Deep TMS is the right next step for you.
How Long Does TMS Take to Work?
While we have noted that a few patients see positive results after 1-3 sessions, for many symptom relief isn’t usually noticeable until at least the third week of treatment.
Sessions are typically short and only last around 20 minutes. Because treatments are so quick, Deep TMS treatment sessions can be easily incorporated into the patient’s daily schedule. As it is non-invasive and minimal side effects, TMS patients are able to drive themselves home from our office after each session.
Deep TMS doe not have to be used in isolation. It can be used as part of a broader treatment protocol that also includes other treatment methods such as medication. Most patients already prescribed medication can also include Deep TMS in their treatment regimen. Many who do have reported a better overall effect on their targeted condition.
